FAQ

What is this collection examining?

It examines Amador County government policies and practices concerning registration, supervision, residence verification, compliance checks, enforcement, and coordination involving people required to register under Penal Code section 290.

Which agencies have been asked for records?

The first two requests were sent to the Amador County Sheriff’s Office and the Amador County Probation Department on August 26, 2026.

What has the Sheriff’s Office produced?

County Counsel transmitted an initial response on September 21 with a 16-page attachment. The packet includes Sheriff Policy 327, local registration reference sheets, state-system quick guides, an older DOJ form sample, and the January 2025 DOJ registration/update form.

What does Policy 327 say about residence verification?

The policy says the Investigations Bureau Supervisor should establish a system to periodically verify continuing registration compliance. It lists residence-confirmation efforts such as an Internet search or drive-by of the declared residence, DOJ review, and contact with parole or probation.

Does the production say how often residence checks happen?

No specific frequency is stated in the produced policy. County Counsel also reported that no compiled summary information was identified for requested compliance-operation and aggregate-statistics categories. The archive therefore treats actual check frequency as an open question.

What is a “sexually violent predator” in this archive?

The term is used only when the source record uses that specific legal category. The January 2025 DOJ form in the production states that a person who has ever been committed as a sexually violent predator must update registration at least every 90 days. The broader collection concerns registered sex offenders generally and does not treat every registrant as an SVP.

Is the Sheriff request closed?

County Counsel confirmed on September 25 that he followed up with staff and there were no additional records. The archive therefore treats the Sheriff request as complete.

Does the collection publish a list of individual registrants or home addresses?

No. The collection focuses on government policy, procedure, training, aggregate activity, operations, interagency coordination, and existing statistics. It is not intended to profile individual registrants, victims, or private households.

How are sensitive emails published?

The public EML derivatives omit requester-identifying information while preserving substantive agency correspondence. Agency-produced blank/sample policy and form material is published separately in its original PDF format.
